Horizon Europe – International Cooperation for Non-EU Countries

  • Overview: This specialized training program is designed to equip participants with the skills needed to identify, manage, and develop successful proposals under the Horizon Europe framework, focusing heavily on international cooperation with third countries and the WIDERA (Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area) program.

  • Target Audience: The R&D community, including researchers, research managers, private companies, and public entities interested in WIDERA funding calls.

  • Format & Key Topics: An intensive, interactive 3-day workshop taught in English. The curriculum covers the core principles of proposal preparation, consortium building, and budgeting for international partners. To maximize hands-on learning, participation is limited to 12 people.

ULisboa Training – Preparation of Applications for European Research Funding (ERC)

  • Overview: Developed to help researchers successfully secure highly competitive individual grants, this program focuses on building advanced conceptual knowledge and proposal-writing strategies for the European Research Council (ERC), European Innovation Council (EIC), and other Horizon Europe core pillars.

  • Target Audience: Faculty members (docentes) and researchers (investigadores) of the University of Lisbon (ULisboa).

  • Format & Key Topics: The course combines in-depth theoretical workshops with dedicated, personalized 1-on-1 strategic mentoring. Sessions guide candidates through proposal drafting, evaluation criteria, and maximizing the scientific and societal impact of their research.

ULisboa Training – Preparation of Applications for Collaborative Projects

  • Overview: This program shifts the focus toward multi-partner collaborative funding under Horizon Europe (Pillar II). It provides the operational and strategic tools required to construct successful consortia and design high-impact collaborative bids.

  • Target Audience: Faculty, researchers, and technical/administrative staff involved in project support at ULisboa.

  • Format & Key Topics: Delivered across multiple specialized tracks, including an Introductory Collaborative Masterclass, an Advanced Hands-On Lab (for participants with active project ideas), and a dedicated session on the financial and administrative rules of Horizon Europe. Includes custom group mentoring.

Open Science and Research Data Management Training

  • Overview: This program helps institutions meet the mandatory Open Science and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data requirements set by the European Commission, which are critical for proposal evaluation.

  • Target Audience: Faculty, researchers, doctoral candidates, science managers, and data management officers.

  • Format & Key Topics: Organized across five key thematic modules: Open Science and FAIR data principles; legal and ethical frameworks (GDPR, copyrights, and intellectual property); data management tools; research reproducibility; and using Artificial Intelligence for Data Management Plans (DMPs).

Introduction to R&D Programmes & SME Instrument (now Accelerator) Practical Workshops

  • Overview: AAVANZ’s core training series designed to translate complex technological research into commercial success. Workshops help companies transition from laboratory concepts (TRL) to solid business models and investor-ready commercial plans, specifically focusing on the high-value EIC Accelerator (formerly SME Instrument) and multi-level funding pathways.

  • Target Audience: Start-up founders, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and SME business developers.

  • Format & Key Topics: Dynamic, small-group practical workshops with interactive discussion. Key topics include EIC Accelerator preparation, market entry planning, risk analysis, and mapping local and international incentives (Horizon Europe, Eurostars, ESA, PT2020/PT2030) to business strategies.

  • Partner Entities: Run on-demand for private corporate clients and periodically in partnership with entities like the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) and LISPOLIS.
